Mama Ninja and Osmosis

Osmosis...a term that has long since haunted me.  As a young child of probably no more than 8 or 9 if even then, would be told by my mother after years of watching kung-fu movies, that I could not learn by osmosis. i.e

the brain and therefore a person cannot watch a task to absorb most of it into usable knowledge.

Remember this is back when Robotech came on early.

I remember one weekend staying up late to catch Robotech on a Sunday morning.

I knew this was when Robotech came on before because I had seen it.  This was bearing witness to a fact.  I had seen this show on at this time and by looking at this time again; I could perhaps see it again.

Osmosis as a skill requires work to develop into something meaningful.  It means that you have to not only understand the form, but also the context.  If you cannot learn the heart of why something is, you cannot possibly attain it only from watching.  Some people don't experience learning the heart as direct knowledge.  A boxer for example learns the heart when it is etched into his fist and into his body.

One always learns through the eyes, but what if the teachers lesson is not addressed to us; then can we still not learn.  Isn't that how generations learned through Youtube How-to videos?  No, I'm afraid Mama Ninja was wrong.  You can indeed learn through osmosis.

What you cannot do is simulate the necessary electrical activity to stimulate the required muscles to make the muscles fire in a sort of realistic simulation.    It technically should be possible, if we could learn what muscles fires when a movement is taken (real practical science) then we could also duplicate that effect for a person who is learning the information digitally, or perhaps in the future quantumly.
