The path we chose is often a lengthy,time consuming one. Like being a rapper or artist or basketball player you never know when or if you will hit the bigtime. Those of us that are determined to make it have make ends meet in the meanwhile hence the title. Few of us are just so blessed that we can afford to sit back and wait until we make it big. A cliché for hollywood is that every valet, waitress, janitor and sales clerk is an up and coming actor, screenwriter or both. Those are the meanwhile makingit's. They realize that the industry is a tough, dog eat dog, shark infested pit that few survive and the rest are swallowed whole. They know that in order to survive one has to have a way to make copies of resumes and headshots. One has to have money for gas or busfare to make it to a casting call. Of course one of the most viable tools is the almighty cellphone and you have to have money for that.
What I am trying to say is that no matter how talented you are you have to have a way to make money while you pursue your goal. You have to be realisitc. Nobody ever truly becomes a star or celebrity overnight. It takes time and time needs money to continue.
I know that finding work is hard right now. People of various skills are losing their jobs all the time. Even me with a strong background in computers faces difficulty with finding work. However I am not with out tricks up my sleeve. I am a strong beleiver in not being a one trick pony. I have cultivated various other skills over the years and that would be my recommendation for every would be actor,future starlet, screenwriter, musician, etc. Always have more than one skill in life in which you can depend on. Being a meanwhile making it simply means you are willing to labor to support your dreams.
